Elimu bora au bora elimu!
There has been a hot debate on this phrase "Elimu bora au bora elimu?" Its a question on the type of education that should be provided.The word "bora" has different meanings depending on wheather it is placed bevor or after a noun. Hence, bora bevor a noun means "just" or " at least". If you place "bora" after a noun it means quality.
For this reason the phrase "Elimu bora au bora elimu" means "quality education or just education" This question has been posed by Tansanias aktive and quiet creative NGO "Twaweza" to Tansanian Parents in form of interviews. The Outcome was as follows:
Citizens' perceptions on free education have changed dramatically in the last 12 years:
in 2005, more than half of citizens (56%) stated that ‘it is better for free education for our children, even if the standard of education is low’.
In 2017, 9 out of 10 citizens (87%) say 'it is better to raise the standard of education, even if we have to pay a fee.'
9 out of 10 citizens (87%) would like the government to spend money on a training and support program than distributing free school uniforms aimed at relieving parents of the burden of purchasing such uniforms.
