ACT Alliance Tanzania Forum and Waking the Giant - Churches for Sustainable Development

The church promotes dairy, poultry, fish and bee keeping for economic interventions targeting both to improve household income to end poverty and enhance household food security and improved nutrition.

Empowering communities to end poverty
WtG operates under support of ACT Tanzania Forum at the same time coordinating the functioning of forum members and member churches in the implementation of 3 thematic areas of development, ad-vocacy and humanitarian services. Development thematic area focuses especially on combating poverty through;
  1. Facilitating and promoting entrepreneurship: income generating activities (IGA)
  2. Formation and management of Village Community Banks (VICOBA) and Village Saving and Lending As-sociations (VSLA).
  3. Enable access to Climate Smart Aagriculture (CSA) information and technologies I.e., access to credit for investing in CSA technologies, products and services and drip irrigation using local methods that are cost effective compared to mechanised methods.
  4. Advocate for climate change at policy level and influence the implementation of the National Climate Change Response Strategy 2021/2026 and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
  5. Track public spending on budgets allocated to support women and youth to fight poverty at the local government levels.
  6.  Formation and strengthening of community climate adaptation committees.
Hence, there is a close integration of the intervention targeting to end poverty (goal 1) and climate change adaptation and resilience interventions (goal 13) which in turn contribute to zero hunger (goal 2).
Extreme poverty is among other factors caused by food insecurity where small income earned on in-come generating activities is spent on food purchase hence no savings.
